The year after the Chicago Bears‘ victory in Super Bowl XX, running back Walter Payton and Sir Georg participated in a lighthearted photo campaign in conjunction with the Orchestra’s 12th radio Marathon in April 1987.

Several other Chicago celebrities agreed to participate in the fundraising campaign the following year, including talk-show host Oprah Winfrey; “Dear Abby” advice columnist Abigail Van Buren (the pen name for Pauline Phillips); film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert; McDonald’s mascot Ronald McDonald (played by Squire Fridell); and clown character and television host Bozo the Clown (played by Joey D’Auria).
